exil.arte is an Austrian non-profit organization, founded in 2006 and dedicated to the recovery of the physical and cultural legacy of musicians and music lost during the Nazi years.
Thanks to exile.arte's tremendous efforts since its inception, the excellent book Forbidden Music: The Jewish Composers Banned by the Nazis by Michael Haas (Yale University Press 2013; please also see Project #2 here), and the initiative of the new chancellor of Vienna's University of Music and the Performing Arts, Ms. Ulrike Sych, exile.arte will finally have its permanent home in the same building as the prestigious Vienna Konzerthaus (pictured above). Thus all Austrian "exiled" composers and their musical estates will finally be able to return home — and none too soon.
